JACOB Tubing Systems – Innovation, Quality and Service Applications Case Studies NASCAR

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, LLC (NASCAR) is an American auto racing hosting and managing company that is best known for its car racing. Each year, NASCAR hosts over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 48 US states, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

The project

NASCAR chose JACOB Tubing to assist with the improvements of the previous Air Titan Model developed by NASCAR's Research and Development team in 2013. The Air Titan 2.0 is a compact, agile and environmentally friendly version of its precursor, which rescued multiple races since its introduction in February 2013.

The Implementation

JACOB's Tubing system is implemented in the Air Titan 2.0 to disperse powerful air streams through the Air Titan, increasing its drying capabilities by 200% compared to the previous Air Titan model. NASCAR determined that JACOB's tubing systems were suitable for use in the Air Titan 2.0 due to the system's tightness and the product's consistency. Using JACOB, the Air Titan 2.0 blows air at 568 mph and is 70 degrees warmer than the ambient temperature. For scale, the Air Titan 2.0 can dry the football field area in 20 seconds using an air volume of 202,700 cu ft in less than 4 minutes.

Its Uniquiness

A group of Air Titans circle the track to force surface water to the apron while vacuum trucks and jet dryers remove the water to complete the drying process. Compressors from the Air Titan send air at high speed through hoses to the Air Titan modules. The Air Titan dispenses air in pressurized sheets over the surface to push water from the asphalt. The Air Titan was created to reduce the time it takes to continue a race after a rainstorm. Air Titan 2.0 indicates a significant step forward in NASCAR's innovation cycle. It replaces the large support vehicles required by Air Titan 1.0 with a single, self-contained unit that's rested on the bed of a Toyota Tundra. By addressing the power source's size, NASCAR® can now deploy up to 21 units in Toyota Tundras at bigger venues and function more efficiently on smaller tracks. "The Air Titan 2.0 is the latest example of NASCAR making substantive changes to our operations and business practices to help reduce the environmental impact of our sport," said Dr Mike Lynch, NASCAR®, vice president of green innovation.

During the Air Titan™ development process, NASCAR® included several products from JACOB Tubing Systems. JACOB Tubing and NASCAR® have fully equipped the Air Titan™ track drying system with QUICK CONNECT pull-rings, bolted pull-rings, T-Pieces & cones. In addition, using the JACOB QUICK CONNECT Clamps allows the Air Titans to be assembled quickly and taken apart easily for cleaning and maintenance. Over time, the innovations of the NASCAR Air Titan™ will lessen the carbon footprint of track drying and reduce emissions, noise pollution, & waste.
